Who is going to win the Golden Globes 2024 …..???

The “Barbie” of Greta Gerwig has made a mark in the Golden Globe Awards 2024  nominations with nine accolades for the blockbuster film. The nominations include Best Original Song, Best Comedy, and acting nods for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, along with three original songs. Following its release, it shares the spotlight with Christopher Nolan’s “Openheimer,” which received eight nominations, including Best Picture Drama and acting nods for Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt.

The nominations come after a restructuring of the awards group, now aiming for a more inclusive and diverse voting body. After several scandalous years, including a year without a broadcast, the group announced its nominations for the January awards show on Monday. Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama announced the nominations from the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the show will also take place on January 7.

In the nominated films for Best Motion Picture Drama, “Openheimer” competes with Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro,” Selena Song’s “Past Lives,” Justin Trit’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” and Jonathan Glazer’s “The John Of.” Interesting!

In the Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category, “Barbie” competes with “Air,” “American Fiction,” “The Holdovers,” “My December,” and “Pure Things.”

Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Pure Things” and Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” both received seven nominations each. “Pure Things” earned nominations for Lanthimos’ screenplay, its cast including Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, and Toni McNamara.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” directed by Eric Roth and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro, received approval for direction and co-writing for Scorsese. Stone, nominated for “The Course” series, expressed surprise and gratitude in a statement. She also mentioned that her role in “Pure Things” as Bela Backstar is her favorite and that she is grateful for the opportunity to be part of this magical film experience.

“Barbie” ties with the 1972 film “Cabaret” for the second-highest number of nominations in the history of the Globes, matching Robert Altman’s “Nashville,” which holds the record with 11 nominations. It became a front-runner in the morning, securing praise for its three original songs and recognition in new categories acknowledging achievements in cinema and box office success.

Notably, America Ferrera, who presented the film’s standout monologue, was not nominated. “Openheimer,” “The Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” and “The John Of” are also included in the films nominated for Best Motion Picture Drama.

In the Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category, “Barbie” secured a place with “Air,” “American Fiction,” “The Holdovers,” “My December,” and “Pure Things.” Many years ago, the Oscars attempted to introduce a similar “Popular Film” category, but it proved to be highly controversial and was eventually abandoned amid backlash.

There were some surprises, such as Jennifer Lawrence receiving a nomination for her poorly-rated comedy “No Hard Feelings” in the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy category. She competes against Robbie, Stone, and Fantasia Barrino (“The Color Purple”), Natalie Portman (“December”), and Alma Poysti (“Fallen Lives”).

The Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy category includes Murphy (“Openheimer”), Cooper (“Maestro”), DiCaprio (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), Colman Domingo for “Rustin,” Andrew Scott for “All Of,” and Barry Keoghan for “The Strangers” and “Saltburn.”

However, there is no need to worry about any individual criticizing the group for its lack of diversity in its “All Men” directorial nominations this year. Gerwig was nominated alongside Nolan, Scorsese, Cooper, and Lanthimos for her romantic debut “Past Lives” with Selena Song’s nomination for her song in the film.

Netflix garnered the most nominations overall, with Slate receiving a total of 13 nominations, including “Maestro,” “My December,” and “Rustin.” Warner Bros. followed with “Barbie.”

Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” was not nominated at all. Instead, its star Joaquin Phoenix received a nomination for “The Right,” Matt Damon for “Air,” Nicholas Cage for “Dream Scenarios,” Timothy Chalamet for “Wonka,” and Paul’s lead actor in a Comedy/Musical category for “You Is Off” received recognition. and Adam Driver with Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” and Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City” both received zero nominations.

After a 2021 report from the Los Angeles Times revealed that the group had zero Black members, which at that time consisted of only 87 foreign journalists, the voting body in the guild has now expanded to 300 members. Perhaps as a result, films like “Fallen Lives,” courtroom thriller “Anatomy of a Fall,” and the emotionally charged Auschwitz play “The Zone of Interest” received more international film and acting nominations in major categories.

Helen Hoehn, the president of the Golden Globes, stated on Monday that the group is “culturally the most diverse major awards body.”

The 81st Golden Globe Awards 2024, the first major broadcast of the awards season with a new home on CBS, is set to take place, but there is no information about the host yet. And while it may seem the same on the surface for viewers, behind the scenes, it has been tumultuous in recent years, with revelations of grand receptions from award publicists and studios, as well as ethical lapses such as accepting lavish gifts and trips.

The Golden Globe Awards has been the second most prestigious awards season broadcast for quite some time, right after the Oscars. Even before the pandemic, it was still drawing in nearly 19 million viewers. The show was marketed as a glamorous, A-list party, often hosted by hosts who embraced more controversial tones compared to their Academy counterparts. It only honored the most outstanding achievements in film production categories—picture, director, actors—meaning those long speeches from scene supervisors or short film directors that no one has heard about were left out.

In recent years, there has been criticism of the HFPA for nominating poorly reviewed films with big-name talents for the show, including the infamous “The Tourist” with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. Over the past decade, they have often overlapped with the Oscars.

This year, NBC’s broadcast on Tuesday night garnered the smallest audience so far, with 6.3 million viewers, compared to traditional broadcasts. More than 2024 Golden Globe nominees have been announced, including:

Animated Film: “The Boy and the Heron,” “Maulik,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “The Super Mario Brothers Movie,” “Suzum,” “Wish.”

Non-English Language Film: “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Fallen Leaves,” “IO Captain,” “Past Life,” “Society of the Snow,” “Field of Interest.”

Best Actor in a Television Drama: Bryan Cox, “Succession”; Kieran Culkin, “Succession”; Gary Oldman, “Slow Horses”; Pedro Pascal, “The Last of Us”; Jeremy Strong, “Succession”; Dominic West, “The Crown.”

Best Actress in a Television Comedy: Rachel Brosnahan, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”; Quinta Brunson, “Abbott Elementary”; Ayo Edebiri, “The Bear”; Elle Fanning, “The Great”; Selena Gomez, “Only Murders in the Building”; Natasha Lyonne, “Poker Face.”

Best Actor in Television Comedy: Bill Hader, “Barry”; Steve Martin, “Only Murders in the Building”; Jason Segel, “Dispatches”; Martin Short, “Only Murders in the Building”; Jason Sudeikis, “Ted Lasso”; Jeremy Allen White, “The Bear.”

Screenplay: “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Murderers of the Full Moon,” “Openheimer,” “Past Life.”

Best Stand-Up Comedy Television Special: Ricky Gervais, “Armageddon”; Trevor Noah, “Where I Was”; Chris Rock, “Select Outrage”; Amy Schumer, “Emergency Contact”; Sarah Silverman, “Love You”; Wanda Sykes, “I’m an Entertainer.”

Nominees for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards were unveiled on Monday morning, marking the official start of Hollywood’s 2024 awards season. As expected, “Barbenheimer” dominated the list, earning nine nominations for “Barbie” and eight for “Openheimer.” The final season of “Succession” also continued its presence with nine nominations.

The announcement of nominations in 27 categories that honor the best in film and television was presented by Cedric “The Entertainer” and Wilmer Valderrama and streamed live on CBSNews.com. Direct nomination broadcasts also took place on “CBS Mornings” in 10 categories.

Eric Davis of Fandango told “CBS Mornings,” “I think the board has the best nominated individuals in the field for the past few years. In the past decade, some of the strongest images we have seen are among our best choices.”

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 7-11 p.m. ET (5-8 p.m. PT) on CBS, and will be broadcast live on CBS between Globes and the network as part of a new deal. The event will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ and the CBS app. Paramount Global is the parent company of CBS.

After a long-standing relationship with NBC ended, the Golden Globes moved to CBS, working under new leadership to rebuild its credibility after being banned amid scandals and accusations. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which hosted the Globes and voted for years to determine nominees and winners, has been dissolved.

HFPA was dissolved, and the Golden Globes were sold. Dick Clark Productions is now the owner and producer of the Golden Globe Awards. Nominees and winners are chosen by a voting body of 300 members from 75 countries.

This year, in another change, the upcoming Golden Globes will introduce two new categories: Cinemathe and Box Office Achievement in Motion Pictures and Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television.

The current eligibility period for consideration is from January 1 to December 31. This means that films and series released within that timeframe are eligible.
